Apologies in advance for the wall of text. I found speedrunning by watching AGDQ 2013. Eight months before that, my dad had undergone surgery for prostate cancer, so I was immediately drawn to the event and cause. Since joining the community, I've made countless friends across the world and experienced things I never thought I'd be able to experience. This race represents the pinnacle of my speedrun "career" so far, but I know that there's no limit to how much further I can go with this hobby.
In December, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately, it was detected early, and her prognosis is very good. I can't tell you how important early detection and prevention have been in the lives of my family. Win or lose today, I'm proud to be here with my friends, and proud to support an incredibly important cause with my time and money.
