So a charity in Japan had this great idea to help lost children by installing vent openings in certain buildings. If a child was ever lost, their parents could submit their picture to a database. If the child subsequently approached such a vent, an automated camera system could then visually identify them, and the vent would distribute small cash prizes (“prix” - you know the Japanese and their fondness for co-opting other languages…) to them so they could buy food, get public transit fare, etc. and ultimately be directed home. Once the child got home, the parents would tell the system that they had been found safe.
It was a great system, and didn’t cost very much at all to maintain. Nobody was able to abuse it because, you see, the cameras, like our donations here, always supported one key element: The Prix vents Can’t serve Found Asians! |
