Last year, one of my spouse's partners passed away from a long battle with cancer. In the midst of moving in, planning our wedding, and starting a new job, I supported her through an unfathomably hard time as she consulted with doctors and planned out visits to her partner in hospice. I wish I had gotten to know that person more, and it is evident that they were very important to my spouse. I have no doubt that my spouse will leave her own donation as well, but I wanted to make sure I made my own. Cancer effects so much more than just the patient diagnosed with it, and I feel an obligation to continue to contribute against it, as I have for many years through this event. |
