During the station defense segment of Long Night of Solace, there is a nebula in the background with a bright white blob as its center. This is actually a picture of a real astronomical object called the Orion Nebula and it is one of the closest nebula to Earth that is actively forging new stars. When viewed from Earth, the nebula is about the same size as the full moon and is one of a handful of deep sky objects that is visible to the un-aided eye under sufficiently dark skies. If the Orion Nebula was actually as close as it's fictional depiction in Halo Reach, it would likely cast visible shadows at night. |
